The rain has been a new subject for me to work with. I absolutely love taking pictures of water. Being able to seem like I freeze time. This was extremely challenging with getting rain drops. It is slightly difficult to take pictures of tiny drops of water plummeting to the earth. The results that I did end up with were really rewarding. Very much well worth the time and patience to grab a split second of time.

I was down at the beach last Friday. While most of the country is freezing and under fluffy white stuff. Well we here in California call this another day. But it was sure a beautiful one especially to spend it walking on the beach. So I had to tai a picture of the coastline.

Mammoth Lakes

Last August, my family and I made the trip up to Mammoth Lakes, California. We camped, had fires every night, and hike to some of the most spectacular places I have ever seen. We hiked up to Crystal Lake, Sherwin Lakes, Emerald Lake, Minaret Point, and the Inyo Craters. And of course my camera made the trip along with us. It was an absolutely amazing experience. The colors up there were so vibrant. I could not get over how blue the sky was so many of the days. Living down by the coast, we don’t often see that as it is often a little hazy from the influence of the ocean. So it was extremely incredible to experience this.

Here are some of the pictures that I took along the way. I will be making a book with a collection of the photographs too so you can await that. But for now here are just some of the amazing places was saw.

So here are my self portrait experimentations. I’m a little self conscious of taking pictures of me, but I kind of played around with some different things that represented me. I was sitting outside and saw how my hair was blowing in the wind, and thought it would make for an interesting composition. So I played around with that as well as having the blue sky in the background contrasting with my strawberry hair. Then the sunglasses were just a cool way to get a picture of me through my reflection.

Women’s Cross Country- 2011 Cougar Challenge

On October 15, 2011, I went and took photographs for the Office of Communications at CSUSM at the 2011 Cougar Challenge that the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams were holding on campus. I was there taking pictures for the Women’s team. It was such a great new experience because I haven’t had very much experience in taking pictures of runners. I have a whole new found appreciation. It is extremely difficult to take pictures of targets that are moving towards you when you are trying to focus and get a very crisp clear image. Through this experience, I found a new understanding of patience because sometimes the camera doesn’t exactly capture what you want it to the way you thing I should have done clearly. But at the same time there are also so many pictures that did come out really well. It was definitely very rewarding to capture a photograph of the team preparing to take off as well as the winning runner, Suzanne Cornwell, coming down the home stretch to take first place. It was a great experience and so rewarding to have the opportunity to capture these amazing athletes.

Luiseño Landscapes by Celebrating People, Plants, Land, and Culture | Make Your Own Book

Durning the summer and fall of 2010, I worked on designing the book Luiseño Landscapes: Celebrating People, Place, and Culture. The project include traveling to Pechanga Reservation, Rincon Reservation, Tierra Miguel Farm on Pauma Reservation, and the Sacred Native American Rock Garden in Vista, CA. The book was a collaboration of three classes, a Digital Photography, Anthropology, and Political Science classes, to document and photography several aspects of the Luiseño people in San Diego, CA. I worked for several hours to create a layout and design of the book, as well as choosing photographs and placing it along with the text of the two other classes. The experience was very enriching, not only visiting these amazing places, but also working on the project to create this amazing book to celebrate the Luiseño people and their way of life.

Last Thursday I took pictures for Jeanette Gilliand, a LPGA teaching golf professional. The day was spent taking pictures of her at work with a short game clinic as well as helping some of her students of the driving range. It was such a great experience, and I was so excited to work with her. Here are some of the pictures that we took.

This August I took a camping trip with my family up to Mammoth Lakes, CA. It was such a great opportunity for pictures. One great thing about my Canon Rebel T3i is that it is so light weight and easy for me to get around with. I took it everywhere hiking up trails where we climbed 700 feet. It was so cool to see my photography skills getting better through these pictures and seeing a visual difference of what I think is good now compared to what that was earlier. So here are some of the panoramas that I took on our trip.
